N.R. “Sonny” Kleinfield, one of The New York Times’ most accomplished journalists, is leaving in November after spending four decades writing powerful, lyrical stories for the newspaper. Kleinfield’s narrative projects have earned him a Polk Award and a Pulitzer Prize, but he’s probably best known for a story published on Sept. 12, 2001.
